Hello all,
It is now early April and high time for the usual newsletter from our urban archaeology community.
EAA Belgrade
The most important news is that the EAA congress in Belgrade will be converted into an online meeting. The reason for this is the unrest in the city and it is impossible to predict how it will develop and whether it is still responsible to hold a large archaeology conference there. This therefore means that our session will be converted to an online session and our annual business meeting will also be online. It is not clear at the moment how all this will take shape. When we know more about our meetings you will of course hear about it.
Workshop Tartu
Furthermore, we are preparing a private workshop in Tartu. Its aim is to further explore in a small group whether and how a synthesis on urban archaeology in Europe could take shape. The workshop will take place in early October.
Book Urban Habitat
The book the Urban Habitat is taking shape. A good number of the papers have already reached the editors and the first batch has been reviewed. There was an editorial board meeting last week and everyone was very positive about the contributions they reviewed. By early May at the latest, the relevant authors will receive their papers back with the editors’ comments.
EAC
At the annual EAC congress, this year in the great city of Gdansk, the volume containing the previous year’s contributions on Urban Archaeology was presented. The editors were Jeroen Bouwmeester and Koen DeGroote. The online bundle Urban Archaeology and the Cities of Tomorrow is free for anyone to read and download. You can find the volume via this link: Internet Archaeology Issue 70
Conferences
Several international conferences on urban archaeology will take place in the coming months. You can find more information on these via the link below and the attachment.

The online meetings
Online meetings are still taking place every month. You should also have received invitations for these. If you have not received them, please let us know. The next meeting is on Friday 9 May 15.00-16.00 CET.
Hope to see you soon and all the best,
Jeroen Bouwmeester

We are the EAA Community for Urban Archaeology. We exchange ideas, experiences, research, knowledge etc. all to improve archaeological research and heritage management in (highly dynamic) urban centres. We are part of the European Association of Archaeologists, but don’t represent the EAA as a whole.
